How to Watch YouTube on Old TV

A study conducted by Nielsen Media research reveals that YouTube reaches more people ages 18-49 than all traditional TV networks combined! Furthermore, the study also claims that the people reached by YouTube watch YouTube on a TV screen.

What does this all mean?

Traditional TV has, to a great extent, bowed out to YouTube and people are not close to outgrowing the habit of watching TV. Only what is on TV has changed.

Another study by Google claims that over 100 million people watch YouTube on their TV screens every month. Further proving that the TV is nowhere close to being obsolete despite the convenience of other smart devices.

Our smartphones, tablets, PCs, laptops, and tablets do not seem to threaten to replace reliable TV. Of course, this is mainly because the television set has, as we know it, also evolved to keep up with the times to stay relevant.

Smart TVs are as sophisticated as any internet-ready device these days. These smart TVs have made connecting to the internet and YouTube one of their basic features. And this enables the television to still be the leading way people view media at home.

Clearly, watching YouTube through the TV is currently the way to go.

But what if you don’t have one of these new, sophisticated smart TVs? Will watching YouTube on TV be impossible for you?

If you have these concerns, then this short read is for you. This article discusses ways you can watch YouTube on TV despite not having a smart TV.

And when you’re finished, take a look at our other YouTube guides:

What happened to YouTube on older TV models?

Older models, as in TV sets manufactured in the early 2010s, were pioneering as these TV sets were the first to incorporate Wi-Fi capabilities as their main features.

This meant that we could now watch and access YouTube through our television sets.

On the Android side of things, Samsung was the first to innovate these TV sets.

Apple and iOS made watching YouTube on TV available through their Apple TV boxes that were introduced in 2012 or later.

But what happened to YouTube on older TV models?

Sadly, it is no longer available.

On the 30th of June in 2018, Samsung has declared that their older models no longer support YouTube and will not be available on models manufactured from 2012 and prior.

In March of 2021, Apple announced that their 3rd gen TV box models will no longer natively support YouTube.

Is it possible to watch YouTube on an old TV?

What if you are an owner of these older TV models? Is there truly no hope in watching YouTube?

Luckily, there are some steps to take to enable you to still watch YouTube on your TV.

These steps are easy to do, legal, and are a lasting solution to this prohibition set by TV manufacturers.

The next section will discuss all that and more.
