What Is a YouTube vs TikTok Boxing Event?

What Is a YouTube vs TikTok Boxing Event

YouTubers vs TikTokers is an amateur boxing event organized as the Battle of Platforms by the Social Gloves Promotion. The YouTube vs TikTok boxing fight card was held on June 12, 2021, at the Hard Rock Stadium located in Miami Gardens, Florida, USA.

Earlier in the spring of 2021, the relatively new boxing promotion of Social Gloves conceived of a fight card that was supposed to headline YouTube superstar Austin McBroom against popular American musician Chris Brown.

The plans for that fight card fell through as Chris Brow’s camp backed out because of undisclosed reasons. There could not have been a better twist of events.

Social Gloves pivoted towards pitting YouTubers against TikTokers and would spur the creation of YouTubers vs TikTokers; a fight card that featured 7 matches between YouTube and TikTok stars.

The Main event featured Austin Mcboom, an American YouTuber from the ACE Family; a YouTube channel that currently has under 19 million subscribers against TikTok’s Bryce Hall who has 22 million followers. The two have been feuding for some months during that time and the perfect stage was set.

The undercard bouts included:

  • YouTuber AneSonGib vs TikToker Taylor Holder
  • YouTuber Faze Jarvis vs Michael Le
  • YouTuber DDG vs TikToker Nate Wyatt
  • YouTuber Deji vs TikToker Vinnie Hacker
  • YouTuber Ryan Johnston vs TikToker Cale Saurage
  • YouTuber Landon McBroom vs TikToker Ben Azelart

The first two bouts of the undercard were broadcasted live on YouTube for free but the rest was available only on pay-per-view on the LiveXLive platform.

Fight of the Night

Fight of the Night

If the whole card looked like awkward amateur fighting for the first time, Faze Jarvis vs Michael Le was undoubtedly an unexpected gem of a match.

Jarvis and Le looked more polished than everyone else on the card. Although their bout did not last longer than people had hoped for, both Jarvis and Le fought and left everything in the ring.

As the bell rang for round 1, Le and Jarvis come out of the gates swinging in a scrappy exchange that saw both fighters give and take beautiful blows. The deadlock was broken at the 1-minute mark when the referee gave Le a standing 8 count after Le is visibly hurt by three unanswered Jarvis straight rights.

Le recovers and the fight continues. With a few seconds to spare in the round, Jarvis unleashes multiple combinations to Le’s dome, and Le is given another standing 8 count. Le is saved by the bell and the match continues to round 2. Jarvis leads 10-7 in the score cards.

10 seconds into round 2 and Le is put away by a vicious Jarvis right hook that sits Le on the canvas for good. The referee immediately waves the match off and Jarvis is declared the winner. The crowd roars in honor of the 2 brave fighters.

With how much money these YouTubers and TikTokers make on their platforms, you could expect that the fighters involved would not settle for anything less than a payday 6 digits.

The YouTube vs TikTok boxing event promoters Social Gloves were eager to build a reputation for themselves. They put together a prize pool of a supposed 15 million dollars in contracts and pay-per-view cuts.

The main bout involving McBroom and Bryce Hall gave each fighter an even split on a 10 million dollar fight purse. McBroom also threw in ante of 1 million dollars of his own money if Bryce Hall could knock him out.

Fighters of the undercard matches reportedly received a smaller purse but both sides of each match got an even cut of their respective fight’s purse. Matches get a bigger or smaller purse according to the fighters’ level of popularity.
